Steps to Create a Media Kit
As a YouTuber, I email brands daily. Recently, I learned that I don’t have to type-out my YouTube information every time I approach a brand. I can just make a media kit and send it as an attachment. But I had no idea where to start or what to include. After several internet searches, I figured it out. So I’ve put together this guide to, hopefully, help someone in a similar situation.
What is a media kit?
A media kit is, in a nutshell, a resume of your business/blog/YouTube channel. Include your photo, introduction, and experience in your media kit. It’s usually 2–3 or more pages long, depending on how much information you have.
Here’s what worked for me
- Professional photo of you
This should be a clear picture of you in a well-lit area. You can take the photo with your phone but don’t use a selfie. - Social Media (and stats)
Include all platforms that you use to promote your company. I included youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; and the number of followers for each. - About Me
Include a short paragraph (3–5 sentences) introducing yourself. Talk about your hobbies or interests here. Some brands like to know where you’re based, so it’s a good idea to just mention your city/state. - Services offered
This section lets the brand know what they can expect from you. Some common ones have dedicated videos, Instagram photos and stories, and/or Facebook photos and stories. - Contact Information
Include how a brand can approach you. List your email, phone number, website, or any other way you can be reached. - Previous Sponsors
Other brands want to see who you’ve worked with before. If there are too many, list the recent/important ones. Dedicate a whole page to this section. - About Channel
Now that you’ve introduced yourself, it’s time to introduce your company. In my case, I wrote what my channel is about, how frequently I upload, the number of subscribers, and the number of views. This should be 3–5 sentences. - Your company logo
If you have a company logo, include it somewhere next to your company name. - Demographics (and Stats)
Brands will usually sponsor your work/project if their goals match yours. They want to know who’s following your work. Include audience demographics by gender, age, and location.
Creating a media kit is easy, once you’ve gathered your information. I created my media kit using a premade layout using Canva. You can purchase templates on Etsy. Or just make your own using a service like PhotoShop.
